Running Like Ribs:
Messy, Real, and Yours
This is akin to eating grease-stain ribs with a plastic fork.
No. We’re not going to talk the latest running gear or how your life can change before the next Administration.
Just like you relish barbecue sauce on your lips more than silverware food at a white tablecloth restaurant—we are talking running (or walking, or jogging) on your terms.
You haven’t run for years, or…
You ran a 5K with your daughter back in 2022, or…
You just laced up now for a run, or…
You really do run, but don’t fixate on time, distance, or who’s watching.
The Real Skill After 50: Listening
The most important thing I’ve learned in all these years of running isn’t form or pace—it’s listening.
Listening when your calf talks back.
Listening when your knees whisper, “Hey, not today.”
Listening when your mind says go but your body says walk.
You don’t need a coach.
You don’t need a finish line.
You need to hear yourself—honestly—and act on it without ego.
At 50+, the win isn’t squeezing in more miles. It’s staying in the game.
Injury often comes when we try to prove something instead of sustain something.
So stretch gently.
Run lightly.
Stop when it hurts.
And walk proud when that’s all your legs want.
Stay in It
