What to Pack
in Your Running Bag
Quarantine the Shoes. Trust Me.
We’re talking about running—on your terms.
• Maybe you’re hitting the journey path with vigor.
• Maybe you’d like to shuffle a couple miles there.
• Maybe you’ve got a quiet streak going with a few exotic location runs.
Wherever you are—you’re here. And that’s enough.
The Bag Within the Bag
Let’s get this straight right away:
Your running shoes are not welcome in your luggage as-is.
They’re not guests. They’re suspects.
And they need to be quarantined.
Why?
Because they smell like work.
They’ve absorbed sweat, city grime, trail dust, maybe a little hotel hallway mystery.
And now you’re going to wedge them up next to your clean shirts and toothbrush?
That’s how personal pandemics begin.
1. Shoe Bag, Plastic Bag, Anything with a Zip
Call it containment.
Keeps the stink in and the funk off your clothes.
This is hygiene. This is respect. This is strategy.
2. Your Running Shoes (Yes, the good ones)
Don’t pack junk shoes because you’re traveling.
If you wouldn’t run in them at home, don’t run in them away.
Bring the real deal—and give them their own air-tight cell.
3. Extra Socks
Always. Not “maybe.” Not “one pair should be fine.”
Pack two extra. Feet sweat more when you’re moving in new places.
4. Running Shorts That Don’t Chafe
This is not the time to experiment.
Familiar gear, trusted fit, preferably something that dries fast on a hotel chair.
5. Small Towel / Face Cloth
For wiping down. For drying off. For saving face before you walk into a breakfast room
6. Body Wipes or Soap Sheet
Quick clean-up in the absence of a post-run shower.
You’ve been that guy before. Don’t be him again.
7. Charged Phone + Your Hotel Card or Photo of It
In case you get turned around, forget the street name, or need to summon a ride.
Don’t rely on memory. Your legs are tired, and your brain is too.
Optional but Wise
• Travel-size foot powder
• Cheap flip-flops (hotel carpet is… unknown)
• Packable rain shell
Something to double as a laundry bag (for everything you just sweat into)
